SUNDAY, JUNE 23rd
Here are some photos of our lovely base.
We had a couple of orientation sessions in the morning that were very helpful in preparing us for some of the cultural differences we would encounter.
We ate some lunch, had some free time, and set off to start ministering at our designated churches!
We met the Pastor and his family at the church where we will be serving. Part of our group went to their church plant called the 'mision' (The Mission). The rest of the group will be serving at the main church. We split into our two neighborhoods and walked around in groups with some translators to invite people to the VBS. At the home base, we had an church service where a few of our students performed some songs in Spanish, we shared a few testimonies, and then had a VBS session with the children afterwards, which included a puppet show, more songs, and lots of laughter.
One of the highlights of the day was definitely the impromptu jam session several of the students had with some of the musicians at the church. Michel really hit it off with the church's drummer, a nine year old named Eliot who was extremely talented. We all gathered around and sang familiar songs, some in English and some in Spanish. It was a great reminder that the God we worship back home is the same God they worship here.
